Folks,
We're having a mailing party on Sunday, October 16 from 11am to 2pm,
and we'd very much appreciate help from anyone who can make it. The
job is to prepare the program precis the list of all panels we're
asking participants to sign up for, for mailing. That'll be taking
packets and cover letters and return envelopes and putting them into
manila envelopes and stickering them. I anticipate that with help we
will finish early, and afterwards we can all head out to a late
brunch together!
Ellen Kranzer has offered to host this at her place on the Arlington-
Cambridge-Somerville intersection point. Directions follow.
Thank you, and we hope you can make it!

FROM OUTSIDE 128/I-95:
Take your best route to the intersection of Rt. 2 and 128/I-95.
Go East on Rt. 2 (exit 29A from I-95).
When Rt. 2 narrows to two lanes, get in the left lane. When the road
splits, take the left fork. Stay in left lane after the light. At the
next light (Mass. Ave.), turn left. Take the first right
(Henderson). Take the first right (Cottage Ave.). We are the last
house on the left.
FROM I-93 SOUTH:
Take the exit for Rt 60 (Medford). The exit ramp dumps you into a
rotary. Take the first right of the rotary (Rt 60 West). Get in the
center lane. At the 2nd or 3rd light the road forks. Take the left
fork (not RT. 60). Make a right on Rt 16 West. Follow Rt 16. You'll go
through several small rotaries, watch the signage and stay on 16. Turn

FROM BOSTON/CAMBRIDGE:
(If you want more detailed directions call.) Take your best route to
the intersection of Massachuesetts Avenue & Alewife Brook Parkway
(Rt. 16) at the Cambridge/Arlington line. Travel up Mass. Ave into
Arlington. ake the first right (Henderson). Take the first right
(Cottage Ave.). We are the last house on the left.
Parking: There is room in the driveway for 4-5 cars & for 2 in front
of the house. Otherwise, park on Cottage Ave at the corner with
Henderson or on Henderson.
PUBLIC TRANSIT: 77 Bus - Harvard Sq./Arlington Heights. This connects
to the Red line at both Harvard & Porter squares. Take the 77 to the
first stop in Arlington. This is right after a major intersection
(Alewife Brook Parkway-Rt. 16) with a traffic light & a Mobile station
on the left. Press the stop request buzzer when you pass the Mobile
Station. You'll see a sign in the middle of the street saying "Welcome
to Arlington", the stop is just after that in front of the Hawthorne
Suites Hotel. (If you miss the stop, the next stop is only 1 1/2
blocks down.) Continue walking in the direction the bus was going and
take the first right (Henderson). Take the first right (Cottage
Ave.). We are the last house on the left.
88 Bus - Lechmere/Claredon Hill or 89 Bus Sullivan Station/Claredon Hill
Take the bus all the way to Claredon Hill. From the bus depot, head
downhill along Broadway (the direction the bus had been heading). At
the traffic light , cross Alewife Brook Parkway (Rt. 16) and turn lef
so you are walking along Alewife Brook Parkway. Take the first right
(Henderson). Take the first left (Cottage Ave.). We are the last
house on the left.
87 Bus - Lechmere/Arlington Center via Somerville Ave.
Get off at Claredon Hill (Foodmaster(?) supermarket on right,
apartment complex & Claredon Hill bus terminal on left -- this is just
before the bus crosses into Arlington.) Head downhill along Broadway
(the direction the bus had been heading). At the traffic light , cross
in both directions and turn left so you are walking along Alewife
Brook Parkway (heading away from the supermarket). Take the first
right (Henderson). Take the first left (Cottage Ave.). We are the last
house on the left.
Redline - Alewife to Bus (350 Alewife-Burlington or 79
Alewife-Arlington Heights). Check the schedules before trying this
route. The buses run frequently on weekdays between 7am & 7pm and not
at all on Sunday evenings. Follow the "exit to buses" signs to the
bus bays. Take the bus to the first stop, which comes immediately
after the Bus makes a left turn onto Massachusetts Ave. Both both
buses stop at the same place. The stop is in front of the Hawthorne
Suites Hotel. (If you miss the stop, the next stop is only 1 1/2
blocks down.) Continue walking in the direction the bus was going and
take the first right (Henderson). Take the first right (Cottage
Ave.). We are the last house on the left.
Redline - Alewife and walk. The house is a 10-15 minute
walk from Alewife. Exit the station through the main entrance (the one
that also leads to the Buses). Go through the exit doors to the
station and go straight ahead up the stairs or ramp. When you reach
the street, turn right and walk to the corner. There will be a two
part cross walk that takes you across the street to the bike
path. Cross the street and follow the bike path or the sidewalk (which
rejoins the bike bath shortly) and go through the highway
underpass. After the underpass, you'll pass a wetlands on your right
and then see several concrete barriers. Turn right at the concrete
barriers. That puts you on Thorndike street, which starts out as dirt
and then becomes paved. Follow Thorndike street to the traffic light
(Massachusetts Ave). Cross Mass Ave. Turn right. Go one block and make
a left on Henderson. Take the first right (Cottage Ave.). We
are the last house on the left.
