  An email address is more accessible, because anyone with an email
address can join the mailing list.  LJ requires that you have an LJ
account.  An advantage of LJ is that you can easily go back and read
old threads.

  Having both splits the conversation.

  Perhaps the answer is to setup an email list, and advertise it on LJ
periodically.
