[ST] Sorry I was out of touch for a while!

Greetings everyone -
Contrary to popular belief, I didn't go over the wall. I've been out of
touch with most Arisia folks for a while now, partly due to a work schedule
that conflicts with nearly every meeting and partly due to a move full of
horrific technical problems that has left me without email access for over a
month or so. For anyone who's tried to reach me, it is most likely I never
got your emails. It was recently brought to my attention that my not
answering email led to some people believing I was no longer available or
was simply unresponsive. Sadly, that's not true, but with my recent
sporadic internet service, no working email and a new phone number, I
imagine it's been challenging to get in touch with me. My cell number
hasn't changed, but these days not answering email is pretty much assumed to
indicate a lack of involvement. Our network was dismantled and the servers
were moved to different hosting. The new dns service was out for weeks due
to line and wiring problems (which also made the phone only partially
useful) and communications here have just gone to hell. On top of it, we
seem to have lost a computer due to a power surge and in the midst of this
chaos, we're still trying to get organized after the move, getting the kid
settled in a new schedule and new school district, and still trying to make
some progress on redistributing all the stuff we dragged here with us. If
you really want to know more, there's recent commentary in my LJ about all
the move issues (JetShade).
At any rate, two verizon technicians and some new incoming wiring later, I'm
back online and back on email and would like to mention a few things.
As I discussed with Joel in person and as seems to have been brought up in
the meeting, I resigned from working on dealer's for this year. While I
would like to thank Joel and Ben and Pam for the opportunity to get
involved, the upheaval and all the ongoing changes in personal life here
have prevented me from giving it the attention and commitment it deserves.
Also, it's very unfair to Pam to carry all the brunt of the work without
getting all the credit, so I asked Joel to pass my intention to resign
along. Pam, I'm sorry if you were trying to get in touch and good luck.
You seem to be doing a really great job and it certainly doesn't look to
need two hands! If you need any assistance on site at the convention,
please let me know and I'd be more than happy to lend whatever help you
needed there.
Although I've not been in touch, I would very much like to still work with
the publications staff and would still like to produce the restaurant guide
for 2007 if the rest of publications would still like me to do so. I would
also still like to contribute to pubs and advertising in general, if the
rest of pubs finds it useful and acceptable. I don't have a great deal of
spare time, but would be happy to help where I can in that area.
While I am currently online, I have a backlog of over 750 emails waiting
answers and not a heck of a lot of spare computer time, so I recommend to
anyone who would like to discuss anything with me to use the phone. I am
mostly home in the evenings and the new home phone number is 508-875-7418.
My cell phone is still 215-280-6425. Please don't call my cell between 8 am
and 4 pm Monday through Thursday - I probably won't be able to talk for more
than a minute during those hours. If you call me on a weekend, please use
the house number. If I'm not home, you will most likely reach Tia (who is
still entirely without email access due to hardware problems). It is
unlikely my work schedule will allow me to attend many meetings, but I am
free on weeknights.
My apologies for any inconvenience, confusion or misunderstandings my lack
of available communications caused anyone. If you were trying to reach me
previously, please try contact me again with this updated information.
Thanks for your understanding and I hope to eventually make it to at least
one meeting to see people again.
Best wishes - Jet
