The thing that worries me about hanging things in the stairwell is
"what happens in the event of fire?" We don't want to hang combustible
materials in the main emergency egress from the hotel. Heaven forfend
that those stairs actually get used for their designed purpose.
And yeah, I agree that we don't want to create excuses for bottlenecks
during "normal" use of the stairs by con attendees. All modesty about
quality of artwork aside, there *will* be people who think something's
well done enough to linger, maybe even "oh, I want a picture of that!"
Even if it's a 15 second pause, consider what happens during rush hour
when some schmuck taps his brakes ten miles in front of you. By the
time it filters back (which probably takes all of five minutes) you're
in thick-as-molasses stop and go traffic.
Damn good point.
Maybe the right thing is "cute sayings on signs at most", maybe
"up/down trivia", but nothing that would cause a fan to hesitate.
And nothing more flammable than a large sheet of paper per floor.
