[ST] Stairwells

Hi Jill, Carsten, et all,
Jill, Thanks for the suggestions. I am not a good candidate for the art
show, I make murals and costumes and masks. I could put up 1/2 of a panel of
a part of a mural in the space allotted; pictures of murals could go there
but I don't want to go into reasons why I am not going to enter a bunch of
pictures of murals. I am not in the business of selling my art; this topic
of conversation I could launch into does not belong on this list. Also, the
"art" I do is more complicated than just murals and costumes and masks, it
is why I am a theater manager.
I will be teaching Shakespeare in the spring... hum... Again, thank you for
the suggestions.
Everybody, As to flammability, the murals would be painted on Tyvek of
course. Fiberglass, last I checked, was considered non-flammable.
Carsten, As to traffic flow, I remember using the stairwells last year.
There was never so much traffic so that people could not move around the
stopped people. And there were stopped people without any anything to look
at; still everyone could get where they were going faster than the
elevators.
The greatest concerns which I cannot contest are the installation and the
removal of these, likely to be large, definitely needing a crew of people to
hang and remove, non flammable ;) paintings.
Sadly, it would look fabulous with some kind of vista done in chunks, much
like the enamel murals hanging over the escalators in the porter square
redline station.
I suspect the resistance to my suggestion goes beyond these voiced concerns,
and so I withdraw my idea. I understand the consensus has spoken and the
answer is no. I understand the apprehension all organizations face when
something has never been done before.
Carsten, I thought Tember was our evil overlord?
Just want to be sure what master to obey...
Be Well,
La

Hi Laura,
I've been monitoring this discussion. I'm chairing next year (Arisia 2009).
I believe that the stairwells must be intentionally left blank as I've never
been in one that had more than a few signs about how to exit the building
and/or whether certain doors were locked at what times. This would be
sensible because if you are exiting the building in case of fire - there
would be nothing in the stairwell except the people and what they are
wearing and carrying that could burn.
As to your artwork, etc... I'd like to see some. Are you in the Boston
area? Shall we meet and chat sometime? Let's find you something
interesting to do for the 2009 Arisia... Yes?
Ask many folks - I'm a really good recruiter. Let's see how we can fit what
you'd like to do into the next convention.
I would suggest that if you are an artist, you should enter the Art Show
this year if possible at the very least.
Smiles,
Jill
