I think this is a cool idea. I volunteer the VOLUNTEERS LOUNGE as the
ground camp for the hikers. I'll give them a special bottle of water that they
turn in at the top to get their ribbon! How's that sound? (I'll just have
stickers that I'll put on bottles of water that have the Mt. Arisia Hiking Team
it or something.)

I love all these stairwell ideas, and I'm sorry they can't all happen
due to dang firecodes and all that since I know La's decor would be
fabulous, but I did realize I never submitted my idea through any
official channels, so even though it's probably too late, hey, why not.
This is an idea for a program item that can take place as many times as
the Powers That Be want to make it happen, and it works both towards the
goal of increasing stairwell awareness as well as the con chair's desire
to encourage physical activity.
Summit Mt Arisia!
Meet up by the stairwell entrance on the first floor (or second, if that
would work better?) and walk up to the top. That's it. You have an
hour to do it, so there's plenty of time and no encouraging people to
run or otherwise potentially hurt themselves. I figure ideally, have
three people staffing the event: one on the bottom, one somewhere in the
middle (maybe floating around a bit to encourage people) and one at the
top. But if needed, it can be just two, or even one (starts at the
bottom and makes the climb just ahead of the rest).
When you reach the top, you receive an "I climbed Mt. Arisia" ribbon!
It can be entirely honor system, or an option is for the person at the
bottom to give the climbers some sort of token/paper that would be
traded for the ribbon at the top.
Cost is just the ribbons, no other set-up or prep is needed, and no
problems should be caused. Thoughts?
I can volunteer to run this program item several times during the con if
the PTB like it.
That's all. Flame on.

PS: I bet our geocaching GoH would be particularly amused by this, too.
Eric in the Stairwell, anyone? ;)
