[ST] [SA] Staff Den access policy...

You might take into consideration that there are few other options for
meals this year, unless one wants to drive someplace for a meal (which
means volunteers could be off site for an hour or more several times a
day.)

I too am no longer concom, but during the convention I put in plenty of
hours as a volunteer. Last year I think I went to the Staff den twice
mostly because I didn't have time. And both times came away with nothing
more than a handful of chips or a slice of bread, since there was little
I could eat due to my food allergies.

Usually people who work the art show don't get out of the art show for
very long all weekend. Sitting at an art show desk is also doing the
important job of keeping an eye on the art to make sure none of it walks
away, not to mention registering artists and bidders, selling prints,
and selling the art on Sunday. By Saturday afternoon most of the
people who sit at the art show tables have enough hours to get their
memberships comped for the next year, and the long day hasn't even
happened yet. I honestly don't think there should be any question about
whether the art show staff should have access.

And people who work the masquerade usually are also volunteers in other
areas of the convention.

I can understand not feeding people who are just gophers and sit at the
door checking badges for a couple hours, but the people who are actually
regulars, who make the show happen every year, who spend hours doing the
paperwork sitting at the desk, should not be restricted from having a meal.

If you are going to start getting restrictive as to who gets to eat in
the staff den, you are going to start losing volunteers. It happens to
be one of the few perks people get for spending their weekend working
the con rather than just being a member and actually participating in
things.
