Arisia is a nonprofit for educational purposes.
Education of any form should be done in a positive fashion.
I do not know anything about this incident but in the founding of Arisia
some of our policies were written with specific past experiences at previous
conventions to be inclusive not exclusive.
The couple of letters that have been posted shows that maybe the education
that needs to be done is teaching staff how to handle various situations and
that volunteers need to inform staff of situations and to let staff handle
them.
Volunteers should NOT deal with any situations.
Staff should deal wtih those situations that they feel comfortable and/or
part of their responsablity. Any other situations should be reported to
appropriate staff. (some incidents should be the exclusive domain of the
conchair).
With no detail on the exact incident I can only recommend that Arisia issue
a private apology that the person percieved the incident in a negative
light, thank the person for reporting it, and ask the person how they think
future incidents can be avoided.
I do not see a need for a sacrificial lamb (except maybe put all the blame
on the conchair and make him do it all over again).
