hi all,
Again sorry for the duplicate posts if some of you are on both the
Staff and Corporate Lists. I feel that this is important discussion
for everyone.
I saw one of the long time vendors this weekend, He had asked me if I
knew anything about Arisia going to 4 days next year, I told him that
I did not. He informed me that it was posted on our webpage. I went
to the webpage and found this:
"Now to confirm a few rumors: Yes, unless there is an unforeseen
roadblock Arisia will be 4 days next year (running into Monday),
starting Friday, January 18th, 2008. We can not expand space but we
can expand time! There are still some details that are being worked
out, please stay tuned."
I feel that if a major change to the format of the convention is
going to be made that it should discussed on the Staff List first and
then the Senior Staff needs to bring it to the Corporation before any
final decision can be made. I have not seen anything on either the
Staff or the Corporate Lists about this change.
I see more then a few problems with this change, one is that not
every one has MLK Day off and it would cause a hardship on our
volunteers, making them incur extra out-of-pocket expenses such as an
extra day at the hotel. Also according to this Dealer he and other
Dealers can't do the fourth day and they are not happy with this change.
I also feel that a Corporate decision needs to be made as Arisia will
most likely be spending more Corporate funds because of the fourth
day. I will of course support what ever the Corporation decides but I
feel that The ConChair and/or Senior Staff can not make arbitrary
decisions when it might alienate the very people we are here to serve
and also when it might affect the reputation and bottom line of the
Convention.
I would also like to add this discussion to the Agenda of the next
Corporate Meeting.
