I agree with other posters on staff burnout.

I know that we have programming and space needs, but perhaps polling
con attendees, vendors, and program participants, we can see if there
is really a demand for another day.

If such polling has been done, it would be nice if the results could
be shared with staff list. I know of a number of individuals, either
personally or who I discovered in my post-con blogsurfing who left
after Saturday because of how crowded the hotel was and difficulties
with elevators. This might mean people wouldn't be around for Monday.

In addition to many employers not honoring MLK Day, many people have
civic responsibilities or other observances which they make on that
commemorative day which would prevent they from participating. I
wonder what kind of message it sends to extend the con into that day,
unless there were holiday-specific programming.

Just a thought. I'm comparatively new at this, and do not wish to
cause conflict.
