I agree with most of what's been said; a lot of it parallels some
recent off-list discussions. To wit:
- We're all intimately familiar with how much work goes into a 3-day
con. A 4-day con would take even more work. A lot of the concom
might burn out and not want to work the next year.
- The MLK holiday following the con gives out-of-towners a day to
commute home. With a 4-day con, they wouldn't be able to take
advantage of that.
- Perhaps more importantly, as several people have mentioned, the
holiday following the con gives us that day for load-out. I know
logistics people who take 3 days off for the con already
(Th,F,M). The people who do have that Monday off would have to take
Tuesday as vacation to work load-out, and the people who usually take
Monday as vacation would have to take another day on top of it. We
aren't a rich crowd, a lot of people won't be able to afford that extra day off
- Also, right now attending the con costs about $300, which, while
better than many, still isn't cheap. Many of our attendees might not
be able to afford an extra hotel night.
What exactly are we hoping to gain by doing this?
