Hi, I'm not current staff, so I usually just lurk. But let me say 1)
that the Vericon conchair has e-mailed a friend and said he'll be
addressing folks in the Vericon LiveJournal community (vericon_fans)
later tonight, so maybe it's best to wait a few hours to see what he
has to say; and 2) Vericon isn't hurting for money these days, and I
doubt that was the basis for their decision. More likely it's along
the lines of, OSC is someone the organizers would enjoy seeing.

Your paragraph number 3 is a bit mangled, but I think I get the gist.
I don't think Vericon is trying to attract people outside the SF
community. They're doing quite well focusing on the college gamer /
webcomic crowd that seems to me to be their core audience. Everyone I
know who has said they're displeased about OSC being the GoH is, well,
older than that group. I'll be interested to hear what the student
population thinks.

So I'm going to steal out with my paint and brushes
I'll change the directions, I'll hit every street
It's the Tinseltown scandal, the Robin Hood vandal
She goes out and steals the King's English
