Well, Dan, I'm afraid I concur with the writer of the original article.
There are no conventions (except AnimeBoston, and then only in a limited way)
that cater to the fans of comics and media based entertainments. I think that
Boston is bypassed for New York and Toronto because we have a bit of a
"personality conflict." That is, Boston convention runners consider themselves
purists, and no actor or creator should be paid for their time at a convention.
I'm not saying this is bad, nor am I saying it's good... it's just the way
it is. I know the couple that runs United Fan Con, very well, and they don't
run that convention this to make a profit. They do it because it's fun, and
they are fans. I wish that they, and their style, would be embraced by
Arisia so that Arisia could be even bigger and better by adding that to our mix.
Just my opinion, I'm not seeking an agreement, but I don't want to argue
either. OK?

When I saw the article complaining about how there are no good conventions
in Boston -- the "comics editor" was complaining the commercial cons were
passing Boston by -- I had to respond. Here's a link to the article from
yesterday's paper. My comment ran in today's (5/31) edition:
