Yes, I've been following it closely. This, unfortunately, can give all fan
conventions a red mark by their name. Don't do anything you can't pay for,
this goes for non-profit conventions as well. If a non-profit did the same
thing it would be just as bad, so don't blame this on the fact that actors were
or were not there. This is a convention runner who didn't know what he was
doing, and an economy that couldn't or wouldn't support the kinds of
conventions that are a staple in Europe right now.

The Fedcon-Germany folks should never have had any business dealings with
the con chairman. He's been bad news for a long time within the media
convention community, both for-profit and non-profit. It's simply a case of knowing
who you are dealing with. The actors took the bait of the Fedcon-Germany
name, and never followed up on who was actually running the Fedcon-USA.

Don't blame this on the actors or the media conventions, or even the for
profit cons. This was one guy, who really was a grifter in the first place.

I just read a page about an entire, horrible convention meltdown in Dallas
this past weekend.

I recommend folks taking the time to read not only the page, but also the
linked discussions, particularly on Fedcon's discussion forums about guests
lied to, a convention organizer who consistently lied and mismanaged the
event, and the eventual shut down of the event by the hotel, because the
convention organizer could not pay the bills.

This is a trek con, and the guests are actors paid to be there... the actors
never got paid, but put on a brave face for the folks who were there, but
ZOMG what a mess.
