Actually, that's not so, at least as of January 2007 - last time I was
at DisneyWorld. I was flaring badly and rented a wheelchair, and most
of the rides had separate entrances and exits. Haunted Mansion had an
escort, even.
Most of the rides in Magic Kingdom aren't new, and predate ADA by a
decade (1990). Haunted Mansion is one of the original rides in
Orlando, opened in 1971.
Try the new rides, like "Soarin". Long, long ramps. Or "Bugs Life".
Huge slanted floors and no steps. Or even "Tower of Terror", which
has multiple elevators, all handicapped accessible.
I was told about this "handicapped in stream" principle by some
acquaintances at Imagineering. Of course, since the economics of a
ride are comparable to that of a major film ( > 100 million dollars,
end to end) they don't do full makeovers very often!
Back on topic: Speaking as one gimp, I would wear the blue badge. When
I crash, I crash hard, and walking/standing/anything is very
difficult. Why not ask the disabled attendees what they think? There
may be no issue there.
I'm _not_ disabled (usually), and I have a problem with this.
Put it this way- is someone in a wheelchair's time _more_ important
than someone who might appear able to take the stairs, but does
not?
If you say "it is" then I say a word you can't say on TV.
And I suggest you consider "over-entitlement" as another word.
My time and my comfort are _just_ as important as yours.
I've spent months walking with 2/3 of my right foot unusable and you
know what- pain hurts the same whether you're handicapped or not.
